THEY are the text messages that detectives allege show a man and woman were planning a violent home invasion at Hawks Nest that ended with one man being stabbed seven times in the back while his 78-year-old father was also stabbed when coming to his son’s aid. Mark Edward Burkett, 46, and John Robert Thomas, 30, appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to entering with intent to commit serious indictable offence. But the alleged principal offender, Mark Burkett’s 22-year-old son Kyle Burkett, who is accused of stabbing the two men during the home invasion at Hawks Nest, intends to plead not guilty and will likely face a trial in Newcastle District Court.
